The name "Dresden Striezelmarkt" originates from the famous Dresden Christstollen (in High German: Stollen = Strutzel), translating to "Dresden Stollen Market." The inaugural Dresden Striezelmarkt in 1434 lasted only one day, held on the day before Christmas Eve. In 2014, the Christmas market celebrated its 580th anniversary.
