Magazine fairs differ from other fairs in many ways. On the one hand, they serve as a forum to present and promote new magazine end products and to establish contact with potential subscribers. On the other hand, they offer a forum for editorial discussions, in which topics can be discussed and ideas exchanged. The publishers of the newspaper industry see themselves confronted with a historical upheaval, even more so than the publishers of magazines: news and content are consumed less and less in printed form and are clearly shifting to the online area. In addition, with the technical establishment of blogs, the news monopoly claimed by media professionals has fallen. Anyone can now offer general or subject-specific content. This development also affects magazine makers. Sales have been falling for years, so that a number of magazine providers are now taking a two-pronged approach and managing an online presence alongside the printed product. At the congresses accompanying the World Publishing Expo, these trends are negotiated in topic-related events dealing with mobile publishing, the question of online payment barriers, content management, automation, web design, and issues of advertising, marketing, logistics, and printing. Publishers of popular and specialist magazines are also represented at the world's major book fairs, the Frankfurt Book Fair and the London Book Fair. The Leipzig Book Fair is reserving a hall for the Manga Comic Convention, a popular meeting point for fans of manga, comics, and cosplay. Related types of trade fairs are trade fairs for the printing industry and trade fairs for marketing and advertising.
