ABOUT THE FAIR
Vienna COMIX is one of Europe’s leading public conventions for comics, manga, and pop culture. Since its founding in 1993, it has evolved from a local comic and toy fair into an internationally acclaimed cultural event. Today, it attracts fans, creatives, and collectors from all over the world to Austria’s capital every year. The term “COMIX” represents more than just traditional comics – it encompasses a broad spectrum of creative expression, from manga and graphic novels to underground illustrations and pop art.
The event takes place at MARX HALLE in Vienna – a historic yet modern venue with excellent public transport connections and a unique atmosphere. Held once a year, the convention is a fixture in the calendar of the international comics scene. It is organized by Martin Erasmus, who shapes the event with great dedication and a keen eye for trends.
The range of content spans from classic comics and international manga to cosplay, merchandise, gaming, and film culture. Over 130 vendor booths offer rare collectibles, new releases, and cult items – from limited editions and action figures to LEGO sets. A major highlight is the Artist Alley, where more than 100 illustrators, including international names like Angelo Stano and John McCrea, sign autographs, draw live, and host workshops. The convention is not only a marketplace but also a vibrant platform for creative exchange – including emerging talent from Austria’s comic scene, such as students from the “Comicklasse Wien” or “Tisch14”.
The diverse cosplay program is especially popular, featuring shows, competitions, and professional photo shoots. Additional themed areas, such as the well-loved Star Wars special with fan activities and exhibits, ensure a varied and immersive experience. Families are warmly welcomed: a dedicated family fun zone, interactive activities, and small giveaways encourage cross-generational engagement with the comic world.
The audience is as diverse as the program itself. It includes professionals from publishing, media, illustration, and gaming, as well as collectors, educators, and cosplay artists. As such, Vienna COMIX is more than just a convention – it’s a networking hub, a source of inspiration, and a gathering place for the entire community.
