ABOUT THE FAIR
The MineralienWelt Idar-Oberstein is an annual trade and public fair that has, since its founding in 2010, developed into one of the most important international meeting points for enthusiasts, collectors, and dealers of minerals, gemstones, fossils, and jewelry. It is organized by Messe Idar-Oberstein GmbH, whose goal is to strengthen the region's long-standing gemstone tradition and to promote Idar-Oberstein as a globally recognized hub for the industry, while also inspiring a wide audience with the captivating world of minerals.
The event takes place at the Idar-Oberstein Exhibition Center, located in the heart of the town in the Naheland region of Rhineland-Palatinate – an area historically linked to gemstone craftsmanship. Due to natural deposits of agate and jasper, Idar-Oberstein became renowned worldwide as a center for gemstone processing and trade. One of the town’s most striking landmarks is the Church in the Rock (Felsenkirche), built into a cliff and offering a stunning panoramic view over the city.
MineralienWelt is more than just a sales fair – it is an experience-focused platform with a diverse and engaging program. In addition to a wide selection of minerals, gemstones, fossils, and unique pieces of jewelry, the fair also offers specialized services such as mineral identification and appraisal. Interactive activities like gemstone cutting, gold panning, and expert talks provide visitors of all ages with a dynamic and hands-on introduction to the subject.
Special emphasis is placed on spectacular individual pieces and rare finds, including extraordinary jewelry designs, unusual mineral specimens, and large-format crystals. A highlight each year is the rotating special exhibitions, which offer visitors a unique visual experience.
