ABOUT THE FAIR

The viennacontemporary, often simply abbreviated as "VC", represents the premier annual event for contemporary art in Vienna. Since its inception in 2015, the art fair has rapidly evolved into an international hub for art lovers and professionals alike. Originally known until 2014 as Viennafair, it now enjoys international recognition and is organized by VC ARTFAIRS GmbH. The event takes place every September at Messe Wien. The modern and spacious venue ideally supports the extensive offerings of viennacontemporary. Exhibitors from various sectors of the art scene—including galleries, artists, and artisans—display works in painting, sculpture, photography, graphics, new media, and installation art. A particular focus is placed on promoting new talent from Eastern Europe, but the fair also showcases art from regional and international sources. More than just a platform for contemporary art, viennacontemporary is a vibrant meeting place deeply rooted in Vienna’s art and culture scene. It strengthens Vienna's reputation as a European center of contemporary art and has become a permanent fixture in the city’s cultural calendar. The comprehensive fringe program of viennacontemporary, featuring competitions and award ceremonies, makes the event even more appealing. Located in a lively district and excellently connected to the public transport network, Messe Wien offers the ideal location for visitors to experience and exchange art. Situated near other major attractions, it serves as a bridge between Vienna's historical and contemporary art scenes. The first day of the trade fair is reserved exclusively to professional visitors.
