Gem Sri Lanka is Sri Lanka’s leading international trade fair for gemstones, jewellery and the global gem trade. Held annually in January, the event brings together producers, traders, gemmologists, jewellery manufacturers, investors and buyers from around the world at the prestigious Shangri-La Colombo.
The exhibition is organised by the CGJTA (Ceylon Gem and Jewellery Traders Association), the country’s leading trade association representing the gemstone and jewellery industry. For decades, the organisation has been committed to promoting international trade while advancing high quality standards and sustainable sourcing practices.
Sri Lanka has been known for centuries as the “Island of Gems” and is particularly renowned for its exceptional Ceylon sapphires. Celebrated for their purity, vivid colour and rarity, these gemstones rank among the most sought-after in the world. As a result, Gem Sri Lanka serves not only as a trading platform but also as a showcase for the entire value chain of Sri Lanka’s gemstone industry.
The exhibition focuses on high-quality gemstones sourced from Sri Lanka and international markets. Visitors gain access to an impressive selection of Ceylon sapphires, spinels, tsavorites, as well as other rare coloured gemstones and collectors’ stones. Particular emphasis is placed on gemstone provenance. Trade visitors benefit from exclusive insights into the country’s gem deposits, mining practices and modern approaches to ethical and sustainable sourcing. At the same time, the event highlights the rich heritage of the gemstone trade and Sri Lanka’s significant role within the global market.
In addition, the exhibition showcases the full downstream processing and manufacturing chain. Featured areas include advanced cutting and faceting techniques, gemstone sorting and calibration, quality control procedures, certification processes, and high-end jewellery manufacturing and finishing technologies. Gem Sri Lanka offers particular value to traders and buyers, as selected individual stones, calibrated parcels and newly released production are often available directly from producers. This provides trade visitors with access to exclusive inventory before it enters wider international distribution channels.
As an international B2B platform, the exhibition actively promotes business exchange between Sri Lankan producers and global markets.
