ABOUT THE FAIR
The Abilities Expo New York Metro is an annual trade show dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for people with disabilities. The event’s name, derived from the word Abilities, reflects its core mission: to shift the focus away from limitations and toward potential. The goal is to open up new possibilities for individuals with physical, cognitive, or sensory disabilities through innovative approaches.
The expo is organized by Abilities Expo, Inc., a seasoned event provider that has spent over four decades connecting people with disabilities, their families, and professionals from the healthcare and social services sectors with valuable products, services, and resources.
Each spring, the New Jersey Convention and Expo Center in Edison—just outside New York City—becomes a vibrant hub for exchange, inspiration, and hands-on support. Conveniently located and easily accessible by car and public transit, the venue offers ideal conditions for visitors from across the Northeastern United States.
The expo covers a wide range of topics, from mobility solutions and assistive technologies to inclusive education and social participation. It showcases cutting-edge products and services designed to simplify or even transform everyday life for people with disabilities, including state-of-the-art power wheelchairs, smart communication aids, and animal-assisted therapy programs. The event addresses not only individuals with disabilities but also their families, caregivers, therapists, and professionals working in rehabilitation and healthcare.
One of the standout features of the Abilities Expo is its interactive programming. Visitors can try an adaptive climbing wall, participate in wheelchair skills workshops, or explore the latest in assistive technology at the dedicated showcase. A particular highlight is the appearance of racing driver Torsten Gross, who, despite being a C6 quadriplegic, presents his hand-controlled Porsche—an inspiring example of inclusion in action and the power of innovation.
To ensure full accessibility, the expo provides a wide range of on-site services, including free wheelchair repairs, scooter rentals, and sign language interpreters. Exhibitors represent a broad spectrum of industries—ranging from medical technology and sports to education and consulting—underscoring the diversity and relevance of the event's themes across all areas of life.
